NG Bailey Group is one of the UK’s leading independent engineering and services businesses, delivering complex engineering and infrastructure solutions across highly regulated industries. With expertise spanning engineering, manufacturing and off-site construction, the business supports major infrastructure projects across sectors including energy, healthcare, defence and transportation.
To support major nuclear infrastructure projects, including Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C, NG Bailey Offsite Manufacture invested in STRUMIS, a steel fabrication management system designed to improve visibility, control and traceability across fabrication operations.
The investment formed a key part of NG Bailey’s wider digitisation strategy as the business launched a new fabrication facility near Drighlington, West Yorkshire, to support the manufacture of 20,000 cable tray brackets for Hinkley Point C.

The Challenge
In October 2023, NG Bailey approached STRUMIS with a detailed list of 101 critical “Digitisation Requirements”, outlining the functionality expected from an MRP/MIS solution.
Operating within the nuclear sector required comprehensive material and process traceability across every stage of manufacturing. Key requirements included:
- Full steel material traceability
- Welding wire batch tracking for EN 1090 CE Marking compliance
- Barcode-driven production tracking
- User-defined production workflows
- Real-time production visibility
- Full tracking of parts and assemblies throughout fabrication
The scale and complexity of the Hinkley Point C project presented an additional challenge. Each of the 20,000 cable tray brackets was dimensionally unique, creating a significant requirement for detailed production control, accurate tracking and complete traceability.
At the same time, NG Bailey was establishing a brand-new fabrication facility from scratch. This required the rapid implementation of systems, machinery and processes, alongside comprehensive workforce training, ahead of large-scale production.
The Solution
Following a series of detailed demonstrations, NG Bailey selected STRUMIS as the steel fabrication management solution for its new manufacturing facility.
A key reason for selecting STRUMIS was its flexibility and ability to deliver user-defined workflows and complete production traceability within a single integrated solution.
Barcode tracking also played a critical role in the project. STRUMIS includes barcode label printing as standard, while the STRUMIS Mobility application enabled workshop operatives to record production progress in real time directly from the shop floor using barcode scanning technology.

STRUMIS Mobility in action at NG Bailey
NG Bailey implemented STRUMIS to manage key areas of its fabrication operations, including:
- Purchasing
- Inventory and material control
- Material certification
- Welding wire batch references
- Production tracking
- Inspections
- Dispatch operations
With STRUMIS, NG Bailey gained the ability to track every cable tray bracket throughout the entire fabrication lifecycle, from material receipt through production and inspection to galvanising and final site delivery.
Rapid Implementation and Go-Live
In early 2024, NG Bailey officially placed its order for STRUMIS and associated implementation services, with a requirement to go live by spring 2024.
Starting with an empty workshop facility near Drighlington, NG Bailey transformed the site into a fully operational fabrication environment. Alongside the development of the facility, STRUMIS delivered comprehensive end-user training to NG Bailey’s office and production teams over a five-week period.
Upon completion of the training programme, the NG Bailey team was fully prepared to begin live production operations using STRUMIS.

Real-Time Visibility and Nuclear Traceability
To provide greater operational oversight, custom STRUMIS dashboards were developed in collaboration with the NG Bailey management team.
These dashboards provide real-time insight into production progress, fabrication throughput, project milestones and material tracking, giving management greater visibility across manufacturing operations.
Using STRUMIS, NG Bailey can maintain detailed traceability records across the entire fabrication lifecycle, including:
- Steel traceability
- Material certification
- Welding wire batch references
- Employee and process records
- Production history
- Inspection tracking
- Delivery records
This level of traceability is critical to meeting customer and industry compliance expectations within the nuclear sector. It supports EN 1090 CE Marking compliance, strengthens quality control and operational accountability, and provides greater transparency across nuclear manufacturing operations.
Supporting Continued Growth
Following the successful delivery of the initial project, NG Bailey has secured additional cable tray bracket orders, as well as further work supporting the Sizewell C Nuclear Development.
STRUMIS continues to support NG Bailey’s growing nuclear manufacturing operations, providing the scalability, visibility and traceability required to manage complex fabrication processes and support major infrastructure projects.
The successful implementation demonstrates how the right steel fabrication management software can help manufacturers establish robust processes, achieve demanding traceability requirements and gain greater control over increasingly complex projects.
What NG Bailey Says
“The STRUMIS program was clearly the most feature-rich, complete and suitable solution for our very demanding traceability, workflow monitoring and reporting requirements for the Hinkley Point C project.
From the initial pre-sale technical demonstrations and attention to the detail we demanded, through implementation and training to go-live, the STRUMIS team and the STRUMIS program have delivered precisely what we expected and required for our new nuclear project fabrication facility.
Thanks to the whole STRUMIS service team, the end-user training and ongoing support were second to none, ensuring a seamless implementation of the program. We are now capable of reporting at the refined traceability level of detail demanded by nuclear projects, including Executive Dashboard reporting for senior management.”

Supporting NG Bailey from Initial Enquiry to Go-Live
“It has been a pleasure working with NG Bailey from their initial enquiry through to seeing STRUMIS go live and beyond. The NG Bailey team were extremely clear on their business objectives, and we were delighted to help them secure the software solution, STRUMIS, to support their immediate business objectives for the Hinkley Point C nuclear plant project.
It was immediately obvious from speaking to the NG Bailey team that this first venture into fabricating their own projects at their new facility in Drighlington was not going to be their only fabrication facility. We look forward to continuing to support NG Bailey’s business growth plans, now and in the future.”
